At the Bogtrykmuseet Viborg (Viborg Printing Museum), you can experience the art of printing as it was practised in the old days. Here, you can see how people worked with their hands and experience how typesetting, printing and bookbinding are revived in working workshops – where you can also participate and, not least, learn from the old techniques.
The Viborg Printing Museum is a working museum where visitors are not just passive observers – here, you can touch the equipment and participate in the work.
The museum comprises several workshops: hand typesetting, machine typesetting, type foundry, printing, bookbinding and a machine workshop for restoration and repair.
In the educational workshop, children and young people have the opportunity to try out the old techniques and participate in the printing process themselves.
The museum's origins date back to 1981, when three residents of Viborg acquired equipment from the defunct printing house ‘Vingaards Officin’ to create a graphic workshop in Viborg. The name Vingaards Officin historically referred to the printer Hans Vingaard, who printed Reformation writings in Viborg in 1529.
